SEASIDE SUSPENSE returns to the stunning Kent coast in Whitstable Pearl Series 3 as Kerry Godliman (After Life, Trigger Point) reprises her role as the big-hearted Pearl Nolan, a restaurateur, sharp private detective and unrelenting truth-seeker.
Following much acclaim for all three series and hugely successful launches on Acorn TV and U&Drama, Whitstable Pearl Series 3 is set to arrive on DVD and digital alongside Whitstable Pearl Series 1 – 3 Box Set on 4 August 2025, courtesy of Acorn Media International.
Return once again to Whitstable, the idyllic 16th century seaside town, famous for its oysters. The series is based on the bestselling novels by local writer Julie Wassmer (Eastenders) and brought to life by co-creator Øystein Karlsen (Exit, So Long, Marianne), the award-winning Norwegian filmmaker. The highly-anticipated third series of this much-loved crime drama sees the return of Howard Charles (Top Boy, Shadow and Bone) as the brooding DCI Mike McGuire, Frances Barber (Silk, The Chelsea Detective ) as Pearl’s mum Dolly, Rohan Nedd (Harry Wild Blue Story) as Pearl’s son Charlie and Robert Webb (Peep Show, That Mitchell and Webb Look) also resumes his role as Pearl’s boyfriend Tom, rounding out a stellar cast.
Series three finds the Whitstable Pearl restaurant thriving and so is Pearl’s (Godliman) detective sideline. After a short hiatus, DCI Mike McGuire (Charles) returns to Whitstable, re-energised, and determined to make progress in his quest for self-healing. He and Pearl continue to make a formidable team as they work through various cases together – Pearl never needing Mike’s help as much as he needs hers. As cracks start to show in Pearl and
Tom’s relationship and Mike finally comes to terms with how his wife died, will the duo finally acknowledge their deep feelings for one another?
In the first series we are introduced to single mum Pearl who, with her son grown, pursues her lifelong dream of starting her own private detective agency, which she runs from her family seafood restaurant in Whitstable. When she discovers the dead body of her friend, DCI Mike McGuire arrives from London to lead the murder investigation. Gruff and aloof, the pair initially clash, but they soon find themselves solving cases together and sparks fly between the pair.
In the second series, Pearl investigative work takes centre stage, but she still manages to juggle her time at the restaurant with mum Dolly (Barber). It is six months after the breakdown of her fleeting romance with DCI Mike McGuire and Pearl is now happily dating supply teacher Tom (Webb) who is the definition of a “nice guy”. Her mother, however, is determined to get Pearl and Mike back together, despite the couple’s rocky ending. Although no longer partners in love, they are still very much partners in crime-solving and must investigate everything from a missing child to a 1970s’ film legend in peril and more.
