Remember a time when Corona was a lager, zoom was what you did in your car and sourdough was something you bought in a bakery? Then came the pandemic and with it an amplified digital world… that brought out the best in some and the worst in others.

Now, as our lives continue to play out on social media, a brand-new dark comedy CORONAVILLE, takes a wry look back to that sudden shocking lockdown…. where it all began.

Meet the pandemic personalities of CORONAVILLE, a wickedly humorous take on how some coped with lockdown, how some didn’t at all and how some owned it, in their own inimitable way. Now this original new limited series drops on Amazon Prime Video for its World premiere.

We’ve all seen them, know them, or became one of them and now some of the Covid caricatures we knew and loved – or hated – appear in a new satirical collection of ‘found footage’ – in your face YouTube videos, desperate Zoom calls, look at me Instagram posts and more – delivering a humorous take that picks the scab on our collective trauma.

From the on-the-edge Mum who’s definitely not holding it together with home-schooling, to the psychic who didn’t predict the world crisis and is now trying to manage her sex-mad, boomer Mum (who’s throwing pandemic orgies – ‘hey, they aren’t mentioned anywhere in the rules!’).

We have the hypochondriac millennial and his long-suffering GP, the predatory salesman gunning to make a million as a ‘catastopreneuer’, a spiritual healer/manifesting/crystal-rubbing Instagram guru who truly believes she can outwill the virus with enough positive thinking. There’s the couple whose life is consumed by their sourdough starter, the serial online dater who is rapidly unravelling and the young cat lady, whose feline buddy is more like a soon-to-be ex-boyfriend than the internet sensation she dreams of. And not forgetting the sexually frustrated philosophy professor and the ranting conspiracy theorist, Trump supporter… Sheeple!

This original three-part series from respected film and TV director Emily James, came about when the first lockdown hit. With a successful career in factual filmmaking, that includes renowned feature documentaries such as The Age of Stupid, the infamous Just Do It: A Tale of Modern Day Outlaws and the BBC Storyville epic Silk Road: Drugs, Death and The Dark Web, as well as breakout TV shows such as The Luckiest Nut in the World (for which the Guardian wrote “Emily James is a genius”) and Don’t Worry, Emily decided it was time for a new direction, that saw her create this comedy series to bring some dark humour to the most difficult of times.

Putting her heart, soul and creativity into the project from inception, Emily recruited an entire volunteer team of writers, cast and crew. She combined the power of connecting with like-minded professionals via social media with her charismatic passion for confronting the challenges of life with creative expression, to courageously lead her rag-tag team of home-bound colleagues to places none of them expected to go. Through her tenacity and creativity, the wickedly perceptive CORONAVILLE was born.

Take a trip to CORONAVILLE and meet the curious creatures born out of the toughest of times.
