The Christmas Special, All God’s Creatures is also included.
Hailed by The Guardian as ‘the comforting TV we all need’ and ‘the most charming drama on TV’ by Daily Mail, this endlessly entertaining drama is based on the popular novels and life of veterinary surgeon and writer James Herriot (aka James Alfred Wight OBE). The soul soothing series has solidified itself as one of the nation’s best-loved shows and has gone on to become 5’s biggest hit and has captured the hearts of audiences across the globe.

The new series takes us to the end of the Second World War, where we find the Skeldale House at sixes and sevens. With victory in Europe declared, there is the promise of peace at last. But there’s no rest for James (Nicholas Ralph – The Most Reluctant Convert), as he juggles veterinary work with his busy family life with Helen (Rachel Shenton – Hollyoaks, White Gold) and the exceptionally challenging Siegfried (Samuel West – Slow Horses, Darkest Hour).
A battle worn, but more mature, Tristan (Callum Woodhouse – The Durrells) returns and must re-adjust to life back in Darrowby. Meanwhile, Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley – Deadwater Fell, In Bruges) works hard to bring everyone back together and restore harmony at the surgery. As the Skeldale house re-connect, they must find their renewed purpose as the world around them starts to breathe again and look to a brighter future.

The first series begins in 1937 as James Herriot, a newly qualified animal surgeon, moves to a small town in Yorkshire to begin his first job with the irritable but kind veterinarian Siegfried Farnon. Once there, he quickly discovers that treating the animals is as much about looking out for their owners: there are plenty of people and animals to care for, challenges to meet, and life-affirming lessons to learn along the way.
In series two, after Helen Alderson is jilted by Hugh Hulton (Matthew Lewis – Harry Potter, Murder Before Evensong) at the altar, she and James finally address their feelings for each other.
In the third series, James and Helen finally tie the knot and the Skeldale family is forced to consider its purpose in Darrowby and beyond as the Second World War looms.

In series four, Helen and Mrs. Hall muck in with James and Siegfried to keep the veterinary practice running smoothly while Tristan serves in the army. They’re joined by two newcomers: efficient bookkeeper Miss Harbottle (Neve McIntosh – Shetland) and aspiring vet student Richard Carmody (James Anthony-Rose – Masters of the Air).
In series five, there’s a new arrival in Skeldale House and the family is adjusting to having baby Jimmy around. While Helen gets to grips with motherhood, James is posted at RAF Abingdon. Though they miss one another – between a baby and the war effort – they have plenty to keep them busy.
With stunning scenery, a delightful cast and brilliant storytelling, escape from everyday life and join All Creatures Great & Small this Christmas for an uplifting watch and the perfect winter warmer this festive season.
