Look To The Light, the directorial debut of Christopher Manoe is a captivating British feature that delves into the life of Eddie Reynolds, a wannabe celebrity influencer who’s thrown a curve ball when he’s just started a new relationship but is chosen to take part in “Love on the Rocks” the latest hit reality singles TV Show (nothing like Love Island, at all!).

Starring Charlie Goddard, the film explores Eddie’s pursuit of fame and a tumultuous romance that ultimately ends in tragedy. The film has received praise for its complex storytelling, character development, and cinematography, despite being an indie production. With a compelling soundtrack and a relatable narrative, it will resonate deeply with modern audiences, particularly younger generations as it looks at navigating the challenges of social media, the pursuit of fame and their impact on relationships and mental health.

The film boasts a strong cast of newcomers as well as British T.V. Favourites including Lucy Benjamin (EastEnders, Detectorists), Mark Moraghan (Cockney and Scouse, Holby City, Brookside, The Bill) and Sharon Duce (Coronation Street, Emmerdale).

There are some powerful performances with rising star Lily Blunsom-Washbrook particularly shining, But the film really feels it’s best when the more seasoned actors are on screen, with natural performances and more realistic chemistry between Moraghan and Benjamin.

The film is really nicely shot and the score is effective but for me, it suffers from a few pacing and narrative issues and the denouement was telegraphed a little too early on. Having said that, it manages to keep you engaged but I definitely felt like the end could have benefitted from a bit more trimming.

Eddie may have his struggles, but the future looks bright for Christopher Manoe and his young cast.

Produced by Q Film and Agency 105, Look To The Light is set for its UK debut on digital on May 27th, courtesy of Homesick Angel Ltd and, following its auspicious London premiere on 13 June, a limited theatrical run will follow at Chiswick Cinema.
