Twisters: The Real Story – Review
With Twisters due in UK cinemas on the 17th of July it’s the perfect time to explore one of nature’s most fascinating and terrifying natural phenomena with Twisters: The Real Story.
Robin Bextor (The Exorcist Untold, King Charles III) brings us a documentary that I’m afraid left me a little confused as to what the market (or the point) is. It took me back to the 1980’s when the teacher would wheel in the TV and the top loading VHS recorder to play us a turgid science programme because they couldn’t be bothered with being a teacher anymore.
It features never before seen footage, however the footage may well have been shot on a potato in 1976, the quality is all over the place throughout and just feels like it was made in 1996 as a T.V. spot for the original Twister movie but never used. Some of the storm footage is so long with no narration it just makes it boring.
I don’t like to be negative about any films, I know the work that goes into getting anything made, let alone released, and so everything has merit. Having said that, this just feels like a bit of a misstep, packaging what is best a Blu-ray extra as a full “documentary”.
The exclusive interviews are fairly dull and old school science lesson like.
Finishing with the trailer for Twisters cemented the feeling that we’d be sold a pup here.
One for the super fan, meteorologist or completionist, but I think most others would feel short changed by this release.
Find out for yourself and let me know. Twisters: The Real Story is available on DVD and digital on 1st July courtesy of Reel 2 Reel Films.
