Is the force still strong?
So at the Star Wars Celebration event the new trailer for Star Wars: Episode VII was revealed to the world. I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in joy and then were suddenly silenced, hit play again and repeated many times.
As soon as the first, instantly recognisable strains of music hit the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. Childhood returned.
The trailer didn’t disappoint. Not seen it yet? Where have you been? Click HERE to watch
So the big point people are talking about seems to be one line
“Chewie. We’re home”
Now, of course this is an iconic scene to conjure up memories of
And whilst it was a great moment, there was so much more that really stood out for me that some of you may have missed
We assume this is the mask of Vader. Is it? What happened to it? Why would it look like this (remember Vaders armour helmet is two parts so is this actually something else entirely?)
We can safely assume these are new Imperial? ships. With no emperor there is no Empire, what are these new, darker craft. They are clearly modeled on star destroyers but look blacker, sleeker and, well, smaller. The 4 craft in the foreground are intriguing also.
The “new” Stormtroopers. Now I have to admit when I saw the amount of variation (including the Daft Punk limited edition Chrome version) I immediately thought it was a cynical cash in by Disney to sell merchandise. However they now interest me. What’s the army? What is the symbol on the banner? Who is that man in black on the stage? and what are they standing on, is it a craft? or a Hoth style base?
The passing of the torch. Is this Leia passing her own Light Saber to a daughter? Better nerds than me will probably know exactly what kind of light saber that is and who it belongs to. Let me know in the comments
However, the main stand out moment for me in the entire trailer was something I think most people will have completely overlooked.
ACTUAL STAR WARS EXPLOSIONS!
If you look carefully you can actually see the Wilhelm scream coming from that airborne Stormtrooper.
What do you make of the trailer? has it stirred your interest more or cooled your fire?

Ah, yesssssss, Star Wars. Didn’t Lucas pitch the first script, supported by a gargantuan marketing plan, and a pretty strong hint that he may already have another 5 scripts ready to go? I’d greenlight that sucker fer shure… Has Hollywood really not got anything else to say 40 years later?
Sorry. Not a fan.
Apart from that, though, lovin’ yer blog!
