Full of wonder, The Adventures of Jurassic Pet 2: The Lost Secret promises to charm and captivate audiences of all ages as it lands on digital on 8th May 2023.

A bit of family time

So, does it live up to the promises?

Well, let’s be honest here. I’m about as far from the target audience as is possible. It’s clearly a kids/family film and I’m an old fart with no kids, so take that into consideration when I say… I really enjoyed this far more than I probably should have.

It’s perfect direct to video/TV show material that I can see kids replaying over and over.

The plot, script and production is, to put it mildly, disjointed but who cares when everyone seems to be having fun telling the story.

Wendy is joined at her Grandma’s cabin for Christmas (yes it’s a Christmas film and to be honest, I never fully realised this till it was almost over) by orphan Curtis. She’s not particularly happy about this but her Gran tries to make her be a little nicer to the lad.

Curtis

Well, it turns out that her and her gran go off early in the morning after a full moon to turn into werewolves, no just kidding, they are the guardians of a portal to another time/reality where dinosaurs still roam. One of who is the dinosaur from the first film all grown up. I’ve not seen the original so I’ll take their word for it.

He’s now got a little Jr dinosaur and when the portal closes he’s left behind so the kids have to look after him until the portal opens on the next full moon.

The Kids

Throw into the mix a dastardly plan by the town mayor, a pair of incompetent henchman and completly clueless parents and you’ve got all the ingredients for good wholesome family fun. Oh, and there’s a flying car too. Yes. Because there’s not enough happening already.

Speaking of incompetent henchmen, Barney and Clyde are fantastic. Reminding me of Bulk and Skull from Power Rangers. In fact, the whole thing has a very Power Rangers vibe about it. Some delightful James T Kirk level acting with props and less than effective but perfectly fitting “this car is driving down a road” special effects.

You made a flying machine, out of a dune buggy?

I won’t go too much into the story, as it’s a bit mad and everything would be spoilery, but suffice to say it’s just the right amount of bonkers, lots of fun with some great over the top comedic performances and any kids who like dinosaurs and enjoy shows like Power Rangers,Dino Dan, Dino Dana or even Walking With Dinosaurs are going to love it.

The film has thematic elements that teach the importance of family, kindness, teamwork and not trusting pesky town mayors!

It even has a flying car!
